It was fun, and I think I would go out looking for a dowsing no matter how my mother and father would give it to me afterwards. In the 1950s & 60s I was tossed in at every fire hydrant that was open on the Lower East Side. The Fire Department is not happy with that…it’s one of the reasons playground renovations include fountains that kids can play in.
